Fit, wear and care
  1. Take your usual size for a regular fit with room for a tee underneath. For a closer women's fit, size down one.
  2. Wear it on bare skin or over a collared shirt; the back hem is cut slightly longer so it stays tucked.
  3. Hand wash cold or use the wool cycle, with wool wash. Press the water out in a towel; never wring.
  4. Dry it flat, away from heat, and reshape it while damp. Never tumble-dry it and never hang it wet.
  5. Light pilling in the first weeks is loose fiber working its way out. Comb it off flat on a table, in one direction.
  • Wash knitwear cold, by hand or on the wool cycle, and always dry it flat
  • Wash denim rarely, inside out and cold, and hang it to dry
  • Never tumble-dry wool, cashmere blends or waxed cotton
  • Re-wax waxed jackets once a season and never machine-wash or dry-clean them

Questions

Asked about Merino Crew Sweater

How does it fit?

It is a unisex regular cut and runs true to size. Your usual size gives room for a tee underneath without going boxy; one size up is for layering more under it. For a closer women's fit, size down one.

I am between two sizes. Which way?

The cut runs true, so go by how you like to wear a sweater: the smaller size for a closer fit, the larger to layer under it. If it is off when it arrives, an exchange for size is free for 45 days while the tags are on.

Is it itchy?

It is 18.5 micron merino, fine enough that most people wear it on bare skin, and it is the sweater we point wool-sensitive customers to. We cannot promise how any fabric will feel on your skin, and we do not call it hypoallergenic.

Mine has little bobbles on the sleeves after a week. Is that a defect?

No. Light surface pilling in the first weeks is how merino behaves: shorter fibers work their way out where the fabric rubs, and it slows down after. A sweater comb takes it off in a couple of minutes. A hole, a dropped stitch or a seam opening is a defect, and we fix it.

Can it go in the washing machine?

Yes, on a cold wool cycle, and then dried flat. The one rule is never the dryer.

Will my color come back if it sells out?

All five are core colors, and core colors are restocked every season. If your size is out, the Notify me button on this page is the way to hear when it returns.

Charcoal · 5'11", usually M, bought M: true to size

    Medium, exactly as described

The page said true to size and it is. Room for a tee, not boxy. Three months of wearing it twice a week and it has not grown at the elbows.

  2. Leona W.

    Verified buyer

    Oatmeal · 5'6", usually M in women's, bought S: as advised

Sized down for a closer fit

I followed the note for women and took an S instead of my usual M. Sits right at the hip, sleeves hit my wrist bone.

  3. Pedro A.

    Verified buyer

Navy · 5'9", usually M, bought M: true to size

    Pilled at first, then stopped

Bobbles on the forearms after the second week had me worried. Combed them off as the care page says and they have barely come back. A star off because nobody enjoys combing a new sweater.

  4. Ingrid S.

    Verified buyer

Moss · 5'4", usually S, bought S: true to size

    I usually cannot wear wool

Most wool has me scratching within the hour. I wear this over a tank with no trouble. The Moss is grayer than I pictured, in a good way.

  5. Desmond K.

    Verified buyer

Rust · 6'3", usually L or XL, bought XL: right in length

Longer back hem is a real thing

I am tall and sweaters ride up on me. This one stays tucked when I reach. Went with XL for the length and the body is still trim.

  6. Marisol V.

    Verified buyer

Oatmeal · 5'2", usually S, bought S: long in the sleeve

    Sleeves run long on me

Body fits well in S but the sleeves cover half my hand. I fold the cuff back once. If you are short in the arm, know that going in.

  7. Tobias H.

    Verified buyer

Charcoal · 6'0", usually L, bought L: true to size

Second one, two years after the first

My first Navy is two winters old and looks the same. Bought Charcoal so I can stop wearing the Navy every day.

  8. Aiyana R.

    Verified buyer

Rust · 5'8", usually M, bought M: true to size

    Survived the wool cycle

I was nervous about the machine. Cold wool cycle, dried flat on a rack, came out the same size.

  9. Colm B.

    Verified buyer

Navy · 5'10", usually M, bought M: close in the shoulder

A little snug across broad shoulders

I lift, and the M is close through the shoulders while fine everywhere else. The L would have been long. I am keeping the M.

  10. Renata O.

    Verified buyer

Moss · 5'7", usually S, bought S: true to size

    Worth the repair program alone

Caught the cuff on a door latch and pulled a seam. They fixed it for nothing and sent it back. Hard to argue with that.
