Fit, wear and care
  1. Sponge the jacket clean with cold water and let it dry completely.
  2. Warm the tin in a bowl of hot water until the wax softens.
  3. Work the wax into the cotton with a lint-free cloth, a panel at a time, paying attention to seams and creases.
  4. Set it with a hairdryer on low until the wax sinks in and the surface looks even.
  5. Hang the jacket overnight, away from pale fabric. Do this once a season.
  • Wash knitwear cold, by hand or on the wool cycle, and always dry it flat
  • Wash denim rarely, inside out and cold, and hang it to dry
  • Never tumble-dry wool, cashmere blends or waxed cotton
  • Re-wax waxed jackets once a season and never machine-wash or dry-clean them

Questions

Asked about Jacket Bar Wax

How often should I re-wax?

Once a season. It keeps a waxed jacket waterproof, and it is what keeps the jacket inside its warranty.

How far does a tin go?

About two full re-waxes of one jacket.

Is it the same wax as on the jacket?

Yes. It is the wax the Waxed Field Jacket is finished with.

Can I use it on other things?

It is made for waxed cotton. It works on a waxed bag or hat; it is not for leather, down or anything that is not already waxed cotton.

Is it vegan?

No. It contains beeswax.

Will the workroom re-wax my jacket for me?

Ask through the repairs page. A re-wax is not a warranty repair; the repair team will say what it costs.

An hour on the kitchen table

Bowl of hot water, old t-shirt, hairdryer. The jacket beads water again.

  2. Fergal M.

    Half a tin per jacket

As they say: about two jackets a tin.

  3. Hildegard A.

    Messy the first time

I used too much and had to buff it off. Less is more.

  4. Tobias R.

    No smell

I expected a strong wax odor. There is hardly any.

  5. Maud K.

    Owner of a waxed bag

Used it on an old waxed bag too

Revived a bag that had gone dry and pale.

Tin is hard to open cold

The lid sticks until the tin is warm. Warm it first, which you need to do anyway.

    Seams first

The tip about seams and creases is the useful one. That is where the rain got in.

  8. Conrad B.

Cheap way to keep a jacket going

Eighteen dollars a year for a jacket that cost three hundred and forty-eight.
